Facebook has started to roll out a new Vanish mode for Messenger in the U.S. and select countries. Instagram is also getting it soon.

First revealed in Sep, Vanish mode is basically an option to make messages disappear automatically after they're read and when you leave the chat. Activating this mode is as simple as a swipe-up in an existing chat thread. Doing the gesture again will return you to regular chat mode where you chat history sticks.

Regarding privacy, Vanish mode is an opt-in feature and you can choose if you want to enter Vanish mode with someone. You’ll also be notified if the other party takes a screenshot of a chat done in Vanish mode.

WhatsApp, another Facebook property, gained its own disappearing messages feature last week.
