With our current technology, it’s not ridiculous to expect our room lights to dim at the right song for some mood-setting. We could say that Deezer just moved one small step in that direction – by striving to provide a unique music-listen experience, Deezer is now the first subscription-based music streaming service to incorporate IFTTT for a little more fun.

What can IFTTT do?

For the uninitiated, IFTTT stands for “If This, Then That”. IFTTT is web service that makes unrelated apps, other web services, and even home appliances interact with each other through automated or executed conditional statements.

These conditional statements are known as “Recipes”, and they come in two types. “Do Recipes” simply creates buttons for you to press to get things done – such as having a button that takes what you type in your note-taking app to create Gmail calendar events, with details automatically filled in the columns. “If Recipes”, on the other hand are for running automated, background scripts – one example of an "If Recipe" would be getting automatic Dropbox backups of Instagram images every time you post a photo on the Instagram app. If and Do Recipes also work with certain compatible hardware like Wi-Fi controlled Philips Hue lightbulbs.

How do I get IFTTT functionality on Deezer?

Deezer has an official channel on the IFTTT website, filled with interesting If and Do Recipes waiting to spice up your music listening experience. There are cool Recipes such as this one that changes your Android smartphone’s wallpaper to the album art of the latest Favorite Album on Deezer.

If you want a practical Recipe, you can consider trying this one where Tweeting a track name or artiste name together with a unique hashtag on Twitter will result in having the song added to your chosen playlist on Deezer.

While Deezer is indeed the first to use IFTTT – especially against rivals like Spotify and Apple Music – it is not the very first when it comes to music-streaming services using Recipes. SoundCloud has an official channel on IFTTT, and so does music recommendation service Last.fm.

Deezer is a music-streaming service with 35 million songs and 16 million monthly active users. It is available on desktop and mobile devices, and it is free-of-charge to use, with the option of subscribing to their paid-user models.
