Apple's iBooks Trademark In Contention With Book Publisher
A small book publisher from New York is suing Apple over its use of the "iBooks" term for its e-book store and e-reader app. John T. Colby, Jr., owner of several small independent publishing imprints, filed a federal lawsuit in the Eastern District of New York on Wednesday for trademark infringement.
We know Apple isn't one to shy away from patent lawsuits. Just ask Nokia. However, it's Steve Jobs and co who are caught in the defendant's seat this time. Apparently, the Cupertino firm has been accused of trademark infringement by an independent book publisher over the use of the "iBooks" term. The phrase was first deployed for Apple's e-book store and e-reader app when the iPad was launched in Spring 2010.
