Apple sued for using 3D Touch and Force Touch features

San Jose-based haptic technology firm has sued Apple for patent infringement over the use of 3D Touch and Force Touch features in its iPhones and Watches.

Apple is sued by a haptic technology firm for using 3D Touch and Force Touch features on its devices.

According to Re/code, San Jose-based Immersion filed a lawsuit against Apple for infringing on its patents covering "tactile sensations" and "shared feedback". The lawsuit specifically targets the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and all three models of the Apple Watch.

Immersion claims that it has been developing haptic technologies since 1993 which are licensed for use in medical devices, game systems and electronics. It's odd that Immersion did not include Huawei in its lawsuit as the Chinese company also has a smartphone with a Force Touch display.

It remains to be seen if Immersion's lawsuit has any validity; Jonathan Ive, Apple’s Chief Design Officer revealed to Bloomberg Businessweek that the development of 3D Touch took “multi, multi, multi years”.
