Apple’s new macOS Sierra is now available for download

Starting from today, macOS Sierra will be available as a free update from the Mac App Store. The biggest feature is probably Siri integration, but you'll get other additions like the Universal Clipboard, Apple Pay for the web, and an improved Photos app.

Apple today announced the immediate availability of macOS Sierra, the latest major release of its desktop operating system.

Starting today, users will be able to download the new OS as a free update from the Mac App Store. All Macs introduced since late 2009 will be able to take advantage of the update.

Apple first previewed macOS Sierra at WWDC in June this year, and public betas began to roll out the next month in July. This was also the first time Apple ditched the OS X naming scheme in favor of macOS, finally bringing it in line with Apple’s other OSes.

The headline feature in macOS Sierra is probably the inclusion of Siri, which will allow users to use voice commands to do things like open apps, send messages and search for documents. It’ll all feel very familiar to iOS users, and you’ll also be able to use Siri to get answers to queries on the weather or the previous night’s game.

Other notable features include the ability to synchronize Desktop and Document folders across all Mac devices, a Universal Clipboard for copying and pasting content between different Apple devices, and Apple Pay for the web.
