Two months ago, there were rumors that Apple wanted to acquire Tidal. Well, that is not the case after Apple Music head Jimmy Iovine revealed during an interview with BuzzFeed. Iovine reportedly said that Apple has no plans to acquire Tidal or any other rival streaming music services.
“We’re really running our own race,” Jimmy Iovine, who heads Apple Music, told BuzzFeed News in an interview. “We’re not looking to acquire any streaming services.”
While Iovine shut down rumors of an acquisition, he did not address whether both companies were actually "in talks". Apple Music may be growing fast with a base of 17 million paid subscribers, but that is still a far cry from Spotify which has 40 million paid subscribers.
