Apple Music has reportedly surpassed arch rival Spotify in U.S subscriber count.
A U.S-based major distributor is said to have shared confidential details with Digital Music News on the subscriber count for several music streaming services which positions Apple Music as the current leader of the pack.
While the exact number is not revealed to protect confidentiality, Apple Music is stated to be "a hair ahead" of Spotify in the U.S. The data also shows a far stronger rate-of-growth for Apple Music in the U.S which means it is likely to get a wider lead over the next few months.
Looking beyond the U.S market, Apple Music still lags behind Spotify. Apple Music now has over 45 million subscribers with an estimated 5 to 10 million free trial users. Spotify has a whopping 160 million subscribers, of which 70 million are paying subscribers.
