Apple is said to be interested in Brighter AI's Precision Blur and Deep Natural Anonymisation privacy technologies.
Apple is reportedly planning to acquire a German AI startup to enhance privacy technology on the Vision Pro.
9to5Mac learnt from sources that the Vision Pro maker is eyeing Brighter AI's anonymising face and license plate technologies. As the Vision Pro is capable of recording identifiable information in photos and videos, Apple is looking at ways to minimise the collection of such information on the device.
Brighter AI's website states Precision Blur and Deep Natural Anonymisation as its two privacy-centric products.
Precision Blur will automatically detect and blur faces, license plates and characters in photos and videos, and the company claims this feature "is the most precise AI-based redaction solution" and the Blur has "a random function that cannot be reverse-engineered"
As for Deep Natural Anonymisation, it automatically detects a personal identifier (e.g. a person's face) and produces a synthetic alternative that retains the original's characteristics but is unidentifiable. This protects the identity of the individual while retaining the relevant data for analytics or machine learning.
As a strong advocate of consumer privacy, it is no wonder that Apple takes great interest in Brighter AI's privacy-centric technology.
