Adele’s record-breaking album has finally arrived on a music streaming service near you. 25 has already found its way onto platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play Music, and even Amazon Prime Music, a good seven months after its initial release amidst lamentations that it wouldn’t be available to stream at all. It looks like Adele and her label, Sony Music, have decided they’ve earned enough from physical and digital album sales.
On a more serious note, Adele has never been an advocate of streaming services, and her previous albums – including the 2011 breakthrough album 21 – went through a similarly delayed release when it came to streaming platforms. Still, this sort of "windowed" album releases are rare as the music industry shifts toward streaming. As we wrote previously, few artists have a sufficiently large following that allows them the luxury of avoiding the streaming services altogether.
Singles from 25 like “Hello” and “When We Were Young” have been available to stream for a while now, but this is the first time that the album has been released in full.
While we hardly think that there are any Adele fans who haven’t already listened to the album in full, at least now they’ll be able to enjoy 25 in the same place as the rest of their music (assuming they’re subscribers of the aforementioned streaming services).
