With over 125 million users, there is no doubting the fact that uTorrent is the most popular bit-torrent client in the world at present. They have decided to display advertisements with their software to increase the revenue generated by the product. In addition sponsored torrent links will also be introduced.

At present, uTorrent garners between US$15 million to US$20 million annually in revenue, mostly due to the optional uTorrent Browser toolbar which can be downloaded with the bit-torrent client. It goes without saying that this number will be getting higher in coming times due to the new changes.

The sponsored links will be displayed at the top of the user's current download list. They will be tailored specifically to different regions as well as using some form of targeting based on the user's prior consumption history. Not to worry though, uTorrent has said the privacy of users will still be protected.
