Sony has not one, but two announcements for audio lovers everywhere. The Japanese electronics brand is launching a new pair of entry-level true wireless earbuds and adding a new colour option to its award-winning wireless active noise cancellation (ANC) headphones.

The Sony WF-C700N are true wireless earbuds built for all-day comfort, with three-step ANC (noise-cancelling, Ambient Mode, and Off), Wind Noise Reduction, and IPX4-rated water resistance.

Perks include compatibility with the default Sony Headphones Connect app (iOS, Android), which grants the user Adaptive Sound Control to fine-tune the level of noise cancellation desired during Ambient Mode. The built-in microphone helps with its ANC, Ambient Mode customisation, and voice calls.
Despite being a low-cost alternative to Sony’s WF-1000XM4 TWS earbuds, the affordable WF-C700N still support DSEE audio, has Bluetooth 5.2 (A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, HSP), Bluetooth Multipoint support (for pairing to two devices simultaneously), on top of SBC and AAC audio format support.

With ANC powered on, the buds offer five hours of continuous playback. Without ANC, both buds and case offer a combined 15 hours of music.

The Sony WF-C700N will be listed on the Sony Online Store for sale at an official price of S$199, starting from 6 April 2023 onwards. Sony carries them in four colourways: Black, White, Lavender, and Sage Green.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 needs very little introduction, given how it was good enough to win Editors’ Choice for HWZ’s Tech Awards 2023. In our review, we found it almost perfect. Only its design had minor flaws, and it came in two colours at launch – Platinum Silver and Black.
The carrying case matches the headphones.
Sony has fixed its limited colour choices by adding a WH-1000XM5 in Midnight Blue. From the pictures, it does seem stylish and it’s certainly a different look from typical black, silver, grey, or white headphones priced around the WH-1000XM5. If you want a little bit of personalisation without sacrificing high-quality audio, the new WH-1000XM5 Midnight Blue option might offer that.
The Sony Online Store doesn’t yet carry the Midnight Blue option at the time of publishing. However, Sony’s running an April 2023 promotion for the WH-1000XM5, where all three colourways are going at S$499 (original price S$575, up from its S$569 launch price). Midnight Blue arrives in “mid-April” 2023.
