Singtel and Intel launch 5G MEC incubator for Singapore businesses

The incubator will allow participating businesses to develop and trial 5G use cases based on Intel's hardware and Singtel's 5G strengths.

Singtel and Intel have collaborated to establish a 5G Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC) incubator for Singapore businesses to adopt and deploy 5G applications that need low latency processing at the edge.

Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is a type of network architecture that provides cloud computing capabilities and an IT service environment at the edge of the network. The goal of MEC is to reduce latency, ensure highly efficient network operation and service delivery, and improve the customer experience

Intel’s 4th Gen Xeon processors and Intel Data Centre GPU will be the backend infrastructure while Singtel’s Paragon will sit as the orchestration platform for 5G edge computing and cloud services.  

Its focus will be on developing applications and ecosystems to deliver enterprise and consumer use cases like high-definition content delivery, cloud gaming, video analytics, virtual-augmented-mixed reality, and the metaverse.

Some ongoing trials include a video analytics AI solution in collaboration with Axis Communications, a mixed reality usage solution for real-time workspace collaboration with HTC, and an energy-saving technology developed by Quanta for a more sustainable MEC platform for enterprises.
