Microsoft Reports Record Third-Quarter Revenue, Double-digit Income Growth

Microsoft has just reported its financial report for Q3 2011 and it was an outstanding quarter for them. All divisions reported increased profit with the sole exception of their Entertainment and Devices division, which saw an operating loss of $229 million.

In all, revenue for Q3 2011 was $17.41 billion and net income was up 12% to $6.37 billion, compared to last year. Their Server & Tools business division racked up the biggest gain - from $1.35 billion to $1.7 billion - thanks to strong demand for servers and system centre services. On the other hand, Microsoft attributed the poor performance of their Entertainment and Devices division to a "soft gaming console market" and payouts to Nokia for "strategic initiatives".
