The special edition watch is designed by Barnaba Fornasetti, who designs in the iconic Fornasetti style. The style was initially inspired by his father, Italian painter and interior decorator Piero Fornasetti. The special edition of the Huawei Watch features a blend of Fornasetti’s most recognizable motifs, which includes the “Tema e Variazioni” (theme and variation) – a theme which re-imagines the face of 19th century Italian soap opera singer, Lina Cavalieri – as well as the Fornasetti keyhole design, finished with a striking malachite green hue for both the box and strap.

“The Fornasetti brand is built upon the revival and reinvention of its classic designs and objects, giving them a new purpose and always keeping its artisan approach,” said Barnaba Fornasetti. “The Lina face is a part of my father’s legacy and to reinforce its timeless design; I paradoxically decided to apply it on a cutting edge product that keeps time”.

The smartwatch itself is the same Huawei Watch as seen at MWC 2015, with its 1.4-inch AMOLED display of 400 x 400 pixels made from sapphire crystal glass. The Chinese smartwatch has a 6-axis motion sensor together with a built-in heart rate sensor. It is also one of the first few Android Wear smartwatches with iOS compatibility, together the LG Watch Urbane and Samsung Gear S2.

Huawei’s collaboration with Fornasetti is a nod towards its latest "Design Powered By Huawei" campaign, which asks for designers and artists to contribute design works for future Huawei Watch custom skins. The design competition starts on 11 October 2015, at 8AM (GMT +8).
