If you own a Revolv, you will need a replacement for your smart home hub very soon. Nest – a company owned by Google – is shutting down Revolv and its smart home product line, and the related devices will cease support in every manner. Not only will there be no more updates after 15 May 2016, Revolv smart hub devices will brick, completely stopping to work altogether.

The notice of desist is available on the Revolv homepage. According to the company, its related app will not open, the data for your devices will be deleted, and the smart hub will simply not work. Revolv’s founders claim that the shutdown was because of its increased efforts in Nest smart home hub products.

“So we’re pouring all our energy into Works with Nest and are incredibly excited about what we’re making. Unfortunately, that means we can’t allocate resources to Revolv anymore and we have to shut down the service. As of May 15, 2016, your Revolv hub and app will no longer work.”  - Revolv founders on website

Revolv was acquired by Nest in October 2014, nine months after Nest was acquired by Google. The acquisition resulted in Revolv stopping the sales of its smart home hub, and Revolv employees were directed to work on Nest instead. Last month, the acquired company quietly uploaded the letter onto their website, declaring the product defunct after 15 May 2015. Arlo Gilbert, CEO of medical app company Televero and also a Revolv user, claimed that Revolv did not notify him of this direction change, despite the company having their customers’ e-mail addresses.
