Go cashless this Lunar New Year with DBS QR Ang Baos

DBS is launching its QR Ang Bao or red packet for this Lunar New Year. The DBS QR Ang Bao allows a DBS PayLah! user to “load” the desired cash value onto a unique QR code. This QR code is then gifted as a traditional red packet. Currently, the unique QR code is printed on a DBS QR Ang Bao, and it can be loaded up to a maximum value of S$999. The “loaded” DBS QR red packet can then be given to a recipient, who can use the DBS PayLah! app to scan the unique QR code to receive the “loaded” cash. It’s simple, secure and gives the tradition of doling out red packets an innovative twist.

Best of all, folks giving out red packets this festive season will not have to fret over the availability of new bank notes or how much of each denomination dollar notes they need to set aside for their red packets.

For security purposes, each DBS QR Ang Bao contains a unique QR code and serial number. Its “loaded” value can be easily canceled via the DBS PayLah! app in the event that it gets misplaced.

According to DBS, limited quantities of DBS QR Ang Baos will be made available to interested customers who wish to try them out. Each customer can get two sets of DBS QR Ang Baos (in packs of eight) at all full-service DBS/POSB branches and all POSB Pop-Up ATMs from 25th January onwards, subject to availability.

The DBS QR Ang Baos will be valid for use from 25th January 2019 to 15th March 2019; funds not redeemed by 15th March 2019 will be refunded to the givers.
