Competition in the wearable market continues to heat up as current and new players fight it out.

According to IDC's Q3 2015 report, Fitbit continued to lead the market thanks to its Charge and Surge models. The fitness wearable maker continued to see growth in Asia/Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Apple held on to the second position as it shipped slightly more units from the previous quarter. The entry-level Apple Watch Sports is still the most popular model.

Xiaomi ranks third with more than 97% of its volume shipping into its home market, China. Garmin is in fourth position while newcomer XTC, a Chinese vendor, displaced Samsung from the top 5. Apparently, XTC beat Samsung to the fifth spot by a mere 100,000 units.

The wearable market continues to expand rapidly with over 21 million units shipped in Q3, which is an increase of 197.6% from the same quarter in 2014. As more players such as HTC, Fossil, Swatch and Casio enter the market, the market leaders may face greater challenges in maintaining their positions.
