Attack on Club Nintendo Fan Site Compromises 24,000 Accounts

Mass login attacks on the Nintendo fan site Club Nintendo has lead to approximately 24,000 accounts being compromised. Besides login passwords hackers made away with user information such as real names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Nintendo's main fan site, Club Nintendo, has revealed that 23,926 accounts have been compromised as a result of a sustained mass login attack that began early last month. Owners of Nintendo products can go registers their devices at Club Nintendo as well as answer surveys to receive rewards. 

The attackers were not only able to obtain log-in details for the accounts but also made away with the personal information associated with the users such as real names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.

According to the company the attacks started out on 9th June 2013 and reached their peak on 2nd July 2013. On 5th July 2013 Nintendo reset passwords on the site to protect users from further harm.
