Apple has just confirmed that it is discontinuing its Thunderbolt Display.
In a statement, an Apple spokesperson said, "We’re discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display. It will be available through Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users."
Stocks are limited, so if you have been contemplating about getting one, it's now or never.
Though pricey, the Thunderbolt Display is a great choice for Mac users. It features a 27-inch large display that outputs a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It's not quite 4K quality, but it's still pretty decent but today's standards.
In addition, because it uses the high bandwidth Thunderbolt interface, it is also able to function as a docking station. The Thunderbolt Display features three USB 2.0 ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port and even a FireWire 800 port.
And for convenience and to reduce cable clutter, the display also comes with a MagSafe connector for MacBook users.
Apple did not comment on a successor for their Thunderbolt Display, but it is widely believed that Apple's next display will feature 4K or 5K resolution.
There's even the possibility of the display having a built-in GPU so that less powerful Macs like the MacBook and MacBook Air can enjoy the high resolution display.
