Acer’s Predator Thronos gaming chair is a literal battle station

The Acer Predator Thronos is a crazy contraption that looks more like a cockpit than gaming chair.

Acer’s Predator line has always been a little crazy, but even the convertible gaming laptop it showed off at IFA 2018 doesn’t come close to the Thronos gaming chair it just announced. The Predator Thronos borders on the absurd and it definitely isn’t something anyone needs, but if you’ve always fancied having your own battle station, this is probably it.

While Acer is calling the Thronos a gaming chair, this thing is hardly that. For starters, the actual chair is just one part of the whole contraption, which stands at 1.5m tall. A steel structure arches over the back of the chair, ending in a suspended mount for up to three 27-inch monitors. And if you're wondering what monitor to use, Acer's probably hoping you'll use one of the new 4K monitors it announced today.

The chair itself is motorized, and a control pad on the left lets you adjust the angle of the chair, footrest, and even the overhead monitor arm. The chair can recline up to 140 degrees, so you can lay nearly flat.

In a delicious touch of extravagance, the chair also has a built-in rumble feature and will vibrate in sync with your game.

That said, it’s worth pointing out that the Thronos is not the first to combine a chair and monitor mounts into a cockpit of sorts. MWE Lab has the Emperor, which supports up to three monitors as well. What makes the Thronos unique is its aggressive gamer-oriented design, which either adds or subtracts from its appeal, depending on what you’re looking for.
