Accenture Takes Symbian Off Nokia's Hands

With Nokia pairing up with Microsoft and switching to Windows Phone platform as its preferred OS, Accenture has stepped forward to continue development and support for Symbian. Approximately 3000 lucky Nokia employees will jump ship over to the out-sourcing giants and try to ensure that current users are not left in the lurch. Unfortunately, the move also means that around 4000 unlucky individuals at Nokia shall be finding themselves without a job.

conversations.nokia.com - “This collaboration demonstrates our ongoing investment to serve our Symbian customers,” said Jo Harlow, executive vice president for Smart Devices, Nokia. “As we move our primary smartphone platform to the Windows Phone platform, the transition of skilled talent to Accenture also shows our commitment to provide our Symbian employees with potential new career opportunities.”

The move shows that for the foreseeable future, Nokia is devoting its full attention to implementing and integrating Windows Phone 7 into its products and hence has decided to phase Symbian out of the company.
