Who can resist the allure of free food? According to a survey, 1 in 4 can't.
The survey, which was conducted by US Foods, a food supplier to restaurants in the US, says that around 28% of food delivery drivers admit to taking a bite from their customers' orders.
The survey gathered data from 500 food delivery drivers and over 1,500 customers in the US who used food delivery apps like UberEats, DoorDash, and Postmates.
54% of the drivers surveyed said that there were tempted by the smell of customers' food, and roughly half admitted to caving in and taking a bite.
The survey also asked customers to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 — 1 representing "no big deal" and 10 meant "absolutely unacceptable" — if they minded if their delivery driver took, say, a few fries. The average response, unsurprisingly, was 8.4.
Customers also recommended that food delivery companies have use tamper-evident labels or packaging to deter their drivers from stealing food.
Granted, this survey was done in the US, but I think the temptation of free food is universal. If your next order came with fewer fries than you expect, now you know why.
