Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade comes to Switch 2 and Xbox with a surprising difficulty feature
If you’ re planning to get into FFVII just for the story, Square Enix wants to help you out.

You might’ve noticed this during last week’s Nintendo Direct, but Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is now heading to other platforms outside PS5 and PC. If you can believe it, it’s been four years since this next-gen edition of FFVII Remake came to PS5, and it’s a long overdue development that it’s arriving on other consoles.
Specifically, it’ll be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox on PC; this includes Xbox Play Anywhere, meaning it’ll be playable on handhelds like the ROG Xbox Ally.
FFVII Remake was originally released back in 2020 on PS4, and it was the start of a new FFVII trilogy that would re-imagine Cloud Strife’s story. Intergrade has, since then, essentially superseded the original Remake, the main difference being the inclusion of the Intermission DLC that featured the ninja Yuffie Kisaragi.

While the versions of Intergrade coming to Switch 2 and Xbox will also have the DLC included, a new feature coming specifically to those platforms is “Streamlined Progression”.
Streamlined Progression introduces new options that make gameplay easier, for those who want to experience the game with a less steep difficulty curve. New options include constant maxed HP/MP, possessing the maximum number of each item at all times (with exceptions), and 9999 damage dealt to enemies with every hit.

All the Streamlined Progression options can be turned on or off in the game’s option menu, but it presents a pretty firm (or heavy-handed, depending on how you see it) way to ensure flexibility in the game’s difficulty by pretty much giving you cheats.
According to Remake’s director Naoki Hamaguchi, this decision was made to accommodate players with “different lifestyles and play styles.” Elaborating further, he stated that “I have also had personal experiences where I wanted to play something with the limited time I have but gave up because of the time it takes to level up characters or traverse the game,” and that content consumption as a whole has become more flexible, with options to tailor experiences based on people’s time and interest.
He further stated that the ultimate purpose of Streamlined Progression was to allow players smooth access to the story. Square Enix says that the feature will be ideal for both first-time playthroughs and replays, especially if you want to experience the game at a faster pace or revisit certain scenes.
Finally, Square Enix has confirmed the rest of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy will be coming to Switch 2 and Xbox, stating that they’ll have more news on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the last game in the trilogy (still in development) in the future.
