Pokemon Legends: Z-A gets its first new Mega Evolution at Pokemon Presents 2025, plus a new trailer

Though we don’t know how many new Mega Evolutions will ultimately appear in the game.

One of the featured titles in Pokemon Presents 2025, which happened earlier this week, was Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The second entry to the Pokemon: Legends series, it took up the last seven minutes of the half-hour show, but we have a clearer idea of what to expect when the game releases later this October.

But first, here’s the new trailer that was showcased at Pokemon Presents:

Previous trailers and teasers mostly focused on Lumiose City, the game’s setting, as well as how Pokemon battles will differ from its predecessor, Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

But Pokemon Presents 2025 gave us some previews about how the game’s story will play out, beginning with your induction into Team MZ, a team of Pokemon trainers who aim to protect Lumiose City. We were also introduced to those fellow trainers in the team, including Lida, an aspiring dancer, and Naveen, a fashion designer. Depending on which character you choose at the start of the game, you’ll also be joined by Urbain or Taunie.

Another tidbit that was showcased was the appearance of Mega Dragonite, one of the new Mega-Evolved Pokemon making their debut in Z-A.

While The Pokemon Company was keen on sharing Mega Dragonite, it’s been coy about what the rest of Z-A’s new Mega Evolutions will look like, and which Pokemon will be getting them. We do know, though, that they’ll be important in battling Rogue Mega Evolutions, or wild Pokemon in Lumiose City who’ve undergone sudden Mega Evolutions. You can also recruit other members of Team MZ to fight alongside you when you battle these Mega Evolutions.

We also got a look at the potential antagonist of the game, the Rust Syndicate, a corporate-like entity opposed to Team MZ. Leading them is Corbeau, who you’ll be facing at some point in the Z-A Royale, a series of promotion matches for Pokemon trainers in Lumiose City.

Other characters that you’ll be meeting include the detective Emma, and Mable, a Pokemon researcher who’ll offer you rewards for catching certain Pokemon. Fitting with Z-A’s more urban theme, expansive outfit customisation is also set to come to the game.

Finally, the physical versions of Pokemon Legends: Z-A are up for pre-order now. And with that, we also know how much the games will cost: S$79.00 for the Switch edition and S$89.90 for the Switch 2 version. You can pre-order the games on the Pokemon store on Lazada, or on the Singapore Pokemon website, though the latter doesn’t appear to be live yet.

Pre-ordering at these two online stores or at Pokemon Centre Singapore will net you a Pokemon Legends: Z-A art book and commemorative card as bonuses. But these aren’t the only places offering the pre-order; other retailers will also carry their own pre-order bonuses, including a serial code for an Adventure Set at Toys“R”Us, and a desk mat at FairPrice (both outlets have yet to start taking these pre-orders as of time of writing, however).

Pokemon Legends: Z-A will release proper on 16 October 2025.
