Dell and the ShowStoppers @ CES 2011

We dropped by Dell's Suites at Palms Casino Resort and the ShowStoppers @ CES exhibition over at Wynn Las Vegas Hotel to see just what they have to offer.

Dell @ CES 2011: Streaking at the Venue

If you like to see bunnies (and no, we don't mean the fuzzy furry type), then the Palms Casino Resort is your best bet. Normally, it's home to the Playboy Club but for the duration of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011, the Palms plays host to Dell instead as the computer manufacturer make their announcements and launch of their new products for CES 2011.

Dell showed a quick glimpse of a prototype unit of the Dell Streak 10. We've heard that it's only a static screen though, which means the unit is far from ready.

Now, you may be wondering, just what exactly Dell has up their sleeve, and well, you an expect the usual updates and refreshes to their current models including the successor to the Dell Streak 5. The Streak 5 was only just recently launched in Singapore and already there's a newer and bigger update in the form of the 7-inch Dell Streak 7. There's also a front and rear camera for video chats and Corning's Gorilla Glass for its screen.

The Streak 7 like most of the tablets that we've seen so far, sports NVIDIA's Tegra 2 chip, while only running on Google Android 2.2. Sacrilege you cry? Fret not, Dell most emphatically promised an upgrade to Honeycomb (Google Android 3.0) during the event pretty soon. The Streak 7 is also made for the T-Mobile 4G market as the unit supports it.

Besides the Android Streak 7, an Android phone was also launched - the Dell Venue, which boasts of a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, curved display and a Corning Gorilla Glass screen. The Venue will come unlocked from the Dell.com Mobility Hub, a newly launched site that allows customers to order videos via the room service. Lastly, from what we understand, Dell's extending the Stage UI across to all its platforms, including the new Venue phone.

The Dell Venue is a lovely phone that you will want to get if it's available in your region.

Lastly, Dell also gives its XPS line a size boost with a new 17-inch XPS 17 with 3D stereo capability while the Alienware m17x gets the same treatment together with the upgraded desktop Alienware Aurora systems.

The 3D Stereo enabled Dell Alienware m17x with the latest processors and graphic cards.

ShowStoppers @ CES 2011

The ShowStoppers @CES exhibition is an event that's actually not part of CES 2011, but it's held there at the same time and gives vendors who may not be exhibiting at CES 2011 a chance to interact with selected press members. With our RSVP in hand, we trawled the ballroom of Wynn Las Vegas Hotel to see what these vendors have in store for us.

RealNetworks shows off its new Unifi cloud based media storage system that allows you to stream you content via the cloud. Beta starts soon, so keep an eye out for the registration. You get 2GB basic storage free, with more storage requiring paid subscriptions, of course.

Wondering around the ballroom led us to Intel's booth and this sweet looking Chrome OS notebook.

GM's EN-V concept car is freaking cool. Uses lithium-ion batteries and produces zero emission (though this is not counting the electric power plant that generates the electricity to charge the car).

Andrea Electronics has a pretty nifty headset, the SuperBeam headset that does away with boom mikes by relying on stereo array microphones that form a beam towards a person's mouth while ignoring noise outside the beam area. Cool? We thought so.

Hey, it's the HP dm1 and this thin and light netbook uses AMD's latest Brazos platform. The base model will retail for only just US$450. The netbook will also come with SSD options, though obviously it won't cost US$450 anymore.
