Courts' newly renovated Ang Mo Kio store will hold a grand opening this Saturday, Oct 20

The outlet spans 35,000 square feet over two floors.

A giant store in the heartland

Courts Singapore, a leading retailer of home electronics, IT products, and furniture, is re-opening its newly refurbished Ang Mo Kio outlet this Saturday, Oct 20.

Courts' third largest store in Singapore (behind the flagship megastore in Tampines and the Toa Payoh store), the Ang Mo Kio store spans 35,000 square feet over two floors. It resides at the same address as the current Ang Mo Kio store, which first opened its doors 25 years ago.

Facade-wise, the Ang Mo Kio store has gotten a fresh paint job and massive floor-to-ceiling glass panels, the latter allow more light to enter the store. Courts has also rewired the whole place and replaced the old lighting with more energy-efficient LED-based bulbs. Because Ang Mo Kio is one of Singapore's oldest estates, Courts has also taken into consideration the silver population and built ramps at places like the entrance for easier access. And in about six months' time, Courts will also be installing lifts in the store.

In broad strokes, Level 1 is where you find brand concept areas from major brands such as Apple, Huawei, and Samsung. Courts says this is where the latest and greatest products will be showcased, so expect to see flagship phones such as the iPhone XS/XS Max, Galaxy Note9, and in time to come, the new iPhone XR and Huawei Mate 20/20 Pro.

While the IT and electrical products are still being grouped according to product categories and brands, there are also smaller concept areas from the likes of ASUS and Acer that feature their respective gaming laptop and desktop PCs. Most mainstream PC OEMs are represented here, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Cameras/wearables and TVs are the other two larger sections at Level 1. Like the Tampines megastore, there’s a good mix of entry, midrange and high-end TVs from brands such as LG, Samsung, and Sony. You can easily compare OLED and QLED TVs here.

Level 1 is also where you find kitchen appliances and white goods such as washing machines and air conditioners. One highlight is the new interactive cooking demonstration station that Courts tells us will feature a regular lineup of cooking hosts.

Guru, Courts’ in-house solutions provider, also has a counter on the first floor. Customers can come in to consult the experts on repair issues, maintenance or smart link-up solutions for the home. It even handles trade-in and warranty services.

If you’re looking for furniture, head up to Level 2. The previous partitions have been knocked down to provide enough space to showcase the furniture in apartment and lifestyle settings.

To give customers more personalization, Courts offers a range of made-to-order sofas. There’s a Customization Wall that you can go to to check out the different fabrics and leathers. To satisfy customers’ bedding needs, the store carries mattresses and other customizable bedding products from no less than 10 leading brands.

Courts Design Studio, the company’s interior design and renovation solutions provider, is also found here and has been refurbished as a three-room HDB showflat. This offers shoppers visual inspiration as well as the option of packaging their renovation needs with home furnishing.

Changes were also made at the payment counters. Now, you can use cashless and e-payment options on top of the usual cash, Credit and NETS payment methods. If you’ve made your purchases on Courts Online, you can choose to pick them up at the new “Click and Collect” counter.
