The coolest new cars from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

The Geneva Motor Show is the place where automakers show off their most important cars for the new year. Here are some of the most beautiful, fastest, and wackiest cars from the show.

1/12

Armed with a naturally aspirated V10 producing 640hp and radical trick aerodynamics, the new Lamborghini Huracan Performante recently lapped the Nurburgring in a record-breaking time of 6mins 52.1 seconds, making it the fastest production car around the famous track.

2/12

Silly name aside, the new Ferrari 812 SuperFast is special because it could be the last Ferrari to feature a naturally aspirated V12 engine. Here, the 6.5-liter V12 produces an unbelievable 790hp and 718nm of torque, propelling the car from 0-100km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Top speed is over 340km/h. SuperFast, indeed.

3/12

The Pagani Huayra Roadster has an unpronounceable name, but it is also probably the prettiest thing at the show. Propulsion is provided for by a 6-liter V12 with twin turbos producing 760hp, and because there is so little weight to move - much of the car is ultra-light carbo-titanium - the Huayra Roadster can hit 100km/h from a standstill in around 3 seconds.

4/12

The RS5 is Audi's answer to the Mercedes C63 AMG and the BMW M4. It features a 2.9-liter V6 augemented by twin turbos and puts out 444hp and 600nm, which is sent to all four wheels. This is enough to launch the car from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds. Most importantly, this is quicker than both its rivals.

5/12

The Vanda Dendrobium is Singapore's first ever hypercar and it is a full-electric one. The Dendrobium features four electric motors powered by advanced lithium batteries sourced from the all-electric Formula E racing series. Performance is suitably ballistic, 0-100km/h takes just 2.7 seconds and top speed is likely to be in the region of 320km/h.

6/12

Aston Martin's new hypercar is called the Valkyrie and it was designed in collaboration with Red Bull Racing.  No word yet on power output, but we do know that the car will be powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 built by Cosworth. Aston Martin said the goal is to have a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Yikes!

7/12

The new Honda Civic Type R looks fast even if its parked still. Power output has been slightly improved, with 316hp and 400nm of torque being generated by its 2-liter turbocharged engine. Keen to keep the driving experience raw, Honda has also decided against a fancy double-clutch gearbox, instead the new Civic Type R will get a good old snickety 6-speed manual.

8/12

What's a Yaris doing here? This is no ordinary Yaris, this is the Yaris GRMN - a Yaris tuned up to 11. It features a 1.8-liter supercharged engine that produces around 220hp, good for a century sprint time of around 6 seconds and a top speed of 225km/h. This means it is faster than the sportier-looking GT86. Weight will be kept under 1,100kg and because it also has a Torsen limited-slip differential, handling should be a hoot.

9/12

What the customer wants, Porsche gives. The new 911 GT3 can now be ordered with a 6-speed manual - the outgoing GT3 was only offered with a 7-speed PDK. The engine is bigger too, now up to 4-liters. It is still a naturally aspirated flat-six and power delivery is now up to 493hp. This means 0-100km/h in around 3.4 seconds and a top speed is 320km/h. Oh, did I mention it revs up to 9,000rpm too?

10/12

The new McLaren 720S is the successor to the 650S and it is a car of fantastic numbers. It has a 4-liter twin turbo V8 that produces 710hp and 770nm of torque. 0-100km/h happens in just 2.9 seconds, 0-200km/h in 7.8 seconds, and 0-300km/h in 21.8 seconds. Top speed is a ludicrous 340km/h. The price is likely to be equally daunting too. Expect it to cost well over a million dollars.

11/12

Smaller engines are all the rage and the newest Suzuki Swift will get the choice of a turbocharged 1-liter 3-cylinder engine or a naturally aspirated 1.2 liter 4 pot. The last generation Swift was popular on our roads and looking at the feisty styling of the newest model, I'm sure its successor will be a hit too. For readers with a greater desire for speed, a hotter Swift Sport model packing around 140hp is expected to come later this year.

12/12

The new Ford Fiesta ST will also be getting a downsized engine. The latest model will come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine. Fortunately, power output remains the same at around 197hp, so performance shouldn't be drastically affected. This car will even have cylinder deactivation technology, which means it will run as a 2-cylinder under light loads. How is that for frugality?
