Black Friday 2015: These are the tech deals you’re looking for

Updated: Deals from Amazon and Twelve South.

Black Friday is upon us, and there are deals galore to be had ... if you can find them. Fortunately, we’ve done a lot of the digging for you, and here are some of the great finds that we’ve, err, found.

But before we get to the deals, check out our Black Friday guide for things you need to know before you click “Buy,” like the differences in voltage, when you’ll be taxed, and how to get items that don’t ship here.

And as always, here’s the legalese: Buyer beware, do your due diligence before buying your gear. An introduction here does not constitute an endorsement. We have no affiliation with the stores selling this stuff, so prices are apt to change and deals can vanish without a trace. Wives should not call our offices when they discover that husbands have blown the year’s budget on electronic products.

Happy shopping!

Kindle Deals

On Amazon, the Amazon Kindle is going for US$30 off at US$49.99, with free shipping to Singapore if you spend over US$125. This is the Kindle with a 6” touchscreen display, wi-fi, without a built-in light. You should know that US$49.99 gets you the Kindle “with special offers,” i.e. ads on the lock screen and home page. The Kindle without special offers is also selling at US$30 off at US$69.99.

The same Kindle is going on sale at Lazada for S$115.90 (U.P. S$168.80), with shipping at S$3. This costs more than Amazon’s offer at US$49.99 (approx. S$70), but you have to keep in mind that shipping from Amazon is only free if you spend over US$125 (approx. S$176).

The Kindle Paperwhite, with a 6” touchscreen with built-in light and Wi-Fi, is also discounted on Amazon, although not as much as the basic Kindle. It’s US$20 off the base price at US$99.99, for the version with special offers, and does not ship to Singapore.

The same Kindle Paperwhite is selling on Lazada at S$164 (U.P. S$196). It costs more than Amazon (approx. S$140), but Amazon doesn’t ship the Paperwhite to Singapore, so you’ll need to deal with the additional cost and hassle of using a forwarder.
