Tower of God season 2 episode 7, titled Mazino Magic, was a bit of a mixed bag overall. The highly anticipated showdown between the main protagonist Bam and the powerful Irregular Urek Mazino ended up being rather brief and anticlimactic, leaving me feeling disappointed by the lack of an epic battle that was foreshadowed in episode 6.
After the ending of the previous episode, expectations were high for an intense battle that would truly showcase Mazino’s monstrous strength and Bam’s continued growth. However, in reality, the fight sequence left much to be desired with Bam going out in a whimper. Mazino easily overpowered Bam and his entire team, casually knocking them aside with little effort. Although this did an effective job of showcasing just how ridiculously bonkers Mazino is compared to other rankers or Bam himself, I thought it also made the whole encounter feeling a bit underwhelming and insignificant.
More than just a one sided affair

Enough about bashing the fight. The episode did feature some strong points that make up for the slightly disappointing anticipated Bam versus Mazino fight. Towards the end of the main fight, there were two very impressive and detailed anime-original scenes that did a great job of teasing Bam’s immense hidden potential. The first of the two showed Mazino briefly seeing a glimpse of the ghostly skeletal form surrounding Bam, hinting at the true power lying within the FUG member. The second scene then showcased Bam’s own resolve by manifesting a crimson ribcage to heal his injuries.
Despite being minor additions, these two moments definitely helped to add points to the Bam versus Mazino fight by setting the stage for future fights. With his dormant power and quick regenerative capabilities, the scenes served as a good reminder why Bam is liked by the FUG organisation. All in all, the scenes were great though I would say that the animation had slightly dipped when compared to Season 1.

Beyond the fight scene, the episode also showcased the internal conflict within Bam’s team. With Wangnan having his resolve to help Bam waver a little bit, it did provide for some good drama.
In the later part of the episode, we see the introduction of the new antagonist, Karaka. I can’t help but wonder if they could have gotten another person to do the voiceover as I always assumed he would have a deeper voice. Anyways, his alignment with the FUG Elders means that he will pose a major threat to Bam and his companions going forward.
While the Bam versus Mazino fight itself was rather lacklustre, ultimately, the episode succeeded in teasing of what’s to come in future episodes. With the reveal of the impending Workshop Battle contest, as well as a surprising two-year time skip tease, it seems that the series is gearing up for another major plot-twisting interaction between Bam and the rest of the original team in the future.
My 2 cents
Can't wait for episode 8! Photo: Tower of God 2 Animation Partners
Overall, Tower of God season 2 episode 7 was a bit of a mixed bag. Sure, the lack of an epic showdown between Bam and Mazino was definitely a letdown, but the episode did manage to make up for it through character progression and teases of Bam’s hidden power. While it may not have been the explosive, epic, and hair-curling episode many were hoping for, it was still engaging enough to leave viewers excited for the Workshop Battle episode in the future.
