All aboard the Apple Train

After an explosive launch of the Apple M1 silicon last year and seeing what it is capable of, expectations were riding high at Apple's first launch of 2021 with a Spring Loaded event at 1am, earlier today. Here are the top five gadgets from the launch and further related reporting from Apple and its partners.

  1. Apple iPad Pro (2021) - Everyone guessed that a new top-of-the-line iPad will make its debut today, but nobody could fathom that Apple would take the M1 silicon and stash it in their tablet, instantly obliterating any and all doubt that Apple is the king of the tablet market. The larger 12.9-inch version also gets a super massive display upgrade using thousands of mini-LEDs to drive its backlight and deliver over 1,000 nits of brightness and an amazing 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Find out what else it packs and when can you get one. Sadly, no other iPads got an update - at least not yet.

  2. Apple AirTags - In the rumour mill since 2019, it's finally a reality and this is a gadget that everyone who's vested in the Apple ecosystem can readily take advantage of. It's not exactly cheap at S$45 apiece, but it's well designed and can be a life and time saver when tagged to the right gadgets (or kids). Find out more about how to get one and how does it work.

  3. M1-powered Apple iMac - The humble iMac has gotten a much-needed redesign and a massive boost in performance thanks to the Apple M1 silicon powering it. Since the M1-powered machine requires fewer electronics, Apple was able to flex its design prowess by looking back to its iconic heritage and delivered a super thin and modern 24-inch iMac with 7 funky colours. Head over to learn everything new about these supercharged Apple iMacs.

  4. Purple iPhone 12 - Well, the colour pretty much speaks for itself, though it might seem Apple took a page from Samsung's Galaxy S21 launch. The new colour option is only applicable for iPhone 12 and 12 Mini. Pricing and availability details are here.

  5. Upgraded Apple TV 4K - It might be a long while before we find out what can an Apple TV do if it's equipped with an Apple M1 silicon, but for now, the Apple A12 Bionic processor upgrade should do to keep up in delivering upgraded movie watching experiences. More than the type of shows you can watch, the redesigned remote would be of much higher practical value to most Apple TV users who just can't stand their existing remotes. Oh and you can purchase the remotes on their own too. Find out more over here.
