These rigs will make you want to DIY your own PC

We recently challenged our members to post pictures of their custom gaming rigs for our Get Your App Together Contest. There was just one condition – members had to use our recently renewed iOS forum app to post their pictures in order to qualify.

Voting on the winner ended 1 Nov, and now that the dust has settled, we’ve rounded up some of the submissions for your viewing pleasure. For the uninitiated, these are no hasty cobbling together of parts! These rigs have been put together with loving care and attention to detail (many wallets also became considerably lighter in the process). In an alternate universe where computers are people, these would literally be paragons of beauty.

And in case you’re wondering, the winner is our member royfrosty, who won a Razer BlackWidow Chroma keyboard and Mamba Wireless Mouse, worth S$540 together! Incidentally, you may remember him as the member who was one of the first – if not the first – to get his hands on the preliminary benchmarks for the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X! We've credited the pictures to their respective uploaders, so you can see whose rig it is in the picture captions.

White is the New Black

This rig is running an MSI X99S SLI Plus board with an Intel Core i7-5820K processor. On the graphics front, there are dual liquid-cooled AMD Radeon R9 Fury Xs. And yes, that's a custom Corsair 900D painted white right there. (Image Source: royfrosty)

Ebony? Ivory? How about both? Packing an MSI X99A SLI Krait Edition motherboard, white water cooling fittings, and monochromatic unisleeved cables, this rig has been coordinated down to the last detail. The PSU also sports what appears to be a custom white paint mod. It's powerful too as it rocks an Intel Core i7-5820K processor and ASUS GeForce GTX 780 Ti graphics card. White PCIe slot covers and hard drive trays, white RAM sticks, and a white graphics card! This rig has got the white theme down to a pat with an ASUS GeForce GTX 960 Turbo card and 16GB of Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3 RAM. (Image Source: DestinyZEX)

You can't see it from here, but that's actually a Corsair Graphite 780T case in white. It's matched with an ASUS Z170 Deluxe motherboard with white heatsinks, a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti WindForce card, and 256GB and 512GB Samsung 850 Pro SSDs. (Image Source: papawayne)

A Bold Dash of Color

We must say we really like how cleanly organized everything is here. That's an LG 34UC87C 34-inch Ultrawide monitor, Corsair MM200 mousemat, and Corsair M65 mouse. (Image Source: Imavigilante)

Want a closer look? Okay here it is. It packs an MSI Z87 GD65 motherboard with an Intel Core i5-4670K processor, an MSI Radeon R9 280 card, and a Corsair 760T case. And just look at those custom hand-cut red acrylic plates and red-and-black unisleeved cables! (Image Source: Imavigilante)

This is a colorful one. The LEDs are courtesy of the NZXT Hue, which can be tuned to nearly any color you can think of. It has an MSI X99A XPower AC motherboard with an Intel Core i7-5820K processor, an MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Lightning, and a whopping 32GB of DDR4 RAM, all packed in a Corsair 760T chassis. Yellow may not be your first choice when it comes to deciding on a build color, but it certainly looks pretty good here. The clear acrylic blocks, metallic silver fittings, and transparent tubing all gel together extremely well. This rig is running an MSI Z97 MPower Max board with an Intel Core i5-4670K processor and dual MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming cards in SLI. (Image Source: gaoxing84)

This is one understated watercooling rig. The opaque silver tubing is quite a staid departure from more brightly colored coolant options. Installed in this Corsair 750D chassis is an MSI X99A Gaming 7 motherboard, Intel Core i7-5820K processor, and MSI GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4G graphics card. (Image Source: mtt10879)

Life is all about perspective right? Which must be why this setup uses dual Dell U3415W and U2414H monitors to display the same wallpaper in both portrait and landscape orientations. Either way, we like the clean setup, comprising an Intel Core i7-4790K processor and MSI GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4G card packed into the elegant Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 case.
