In our first gaming benchmark, World in Conflict, it had appeared that the performance had reached a cap around the 83 frames mark, based on the similar scores between a few Core i7, but the i7-975 Extreme Edition managed to break that barrier to record an even higher score.

However, in Crysis, both the new and old Core i7 processors managed scores that were very similar, showing that perhaps the system is adequately fast enough that the graphics card is now holding it back (even though the GTX 260 is no slouch itself). This also means that the Core i7 based systems are better able to give you the performance edge in multi-GPU configurations. Factor in that the Core i7 platform is the only consumer platform that's compatible with both SLI and CrossFireX, it's a clear chance for the ultimate performance seekers.
