The Canon EOS 550D Arrives

The new Canon EOS 550D boasts a 18.0MP APS-C CMOS sensor, a clear wide-aspect 3.0-inch LCD screen, and a 63-zone dual-layer metering sensor. Like the EOS 7D, it features Full HD video recording at 24, 25, 30fps and 720p resolution with similar framr rates. It also manages SD video formats at higher frame rates of 60 and 50fps. Pricing for Singapore hasn't been confirmed yet, but Amazon.com lists a US price of US$899.99, which translates to about S$1,262 at today's rates. Canon says to expect a local launch in mid-March in time for the IT show. So it's coming real soon!

New Features with New IXUS Cameras

Aside from the main show-stealer above, Canon also released a total of 4 new compact IXUS cameras. These cameras come with two new shooting modes, Fisheye and Miniature Effect, and compatibility with SDXC memory cards.

The 14.1MP Powershot SX 210 IS is great for those who prefer shooting from a distance. Armed with a 14x Optical Zoom and HD Moving Recording capabilities, users can hone their super sleuth abilities without alarming your subjects.

If you, like the most of us, prefer to operate our gadgets through touching, the IXUS 210 might be the an answer to a 'touch-filled' photographic experience - armed with a huge 3.5inch wide LCD touch screen, users can easily adjust settings with a tap or sieve through images with a light flick.

The candy-licious IXUS 130 was one of the main highlights of the event, because of both its eye-catching bold colors and ultra slim body. Measuring only 17.8mm thick, it doesn't skim on essential features like HD movie recording capabilities and comes with a 28mm wide-angle lens.

For those who are looking for an affordable and streamlined photographic experience, the 12.1MP IXUS 105 should be a sufficient investment at S$349. Features a 28mm wide angle and 4x Optical Zoom lens accompanied with a 2.7-inch LCD screen.
