The Dyson Cyclone V10 is Dyson’s latest and most powerful cordless vacuum. The new digital motor V10 inside is smaller and lighter than previous vacuum motors but has more suction power — 20% more than the Dyson V8. Dyson is so confident about the new V10 motor that it’s ceasing all development of its corded vacuums in favor of cordless.
Here’s a massive, expanded model of the new V10 motor. The motor weighs only 125g and spins at 125,000rpm. That’s 2,000 revolutions a second! In comparison, the V8 motor weighs 225g and spins at 108,000rpm.
Here’s a view of the V10 you don’t see every day. The V10 motor needed a light but strong shaft that could withstand the motor’s speeds. Dyson engineers picked ceramic, a material that is three times harder than steel but half the density.
Besides the new motor, the vacuum’s chassis has also been redesigned. The most obvious change is that the bin is now aligned with the motor and shaft. This creates a linear airflow path with stronger suction. The V10 Absolute+ variant (pictured) also has a 40% larger bin.
Little changes add up to make the V10 easier to use. For people who can’t mount the V10, Dyson has added a rubber grip to the machine’s bottom-most edge. This way, you can lean the V10 against a wall. The rubber protects the wall and gives the machine a bit more grip to stay on.
For people who can mount the V10, you’ll notice that the mount is redesigned. There are two new docks for accessories. I own a V8 and I’ve always had to lean accessories on the wall or place them on a table when swapping them out. The V10’s mount looks like a nice improvement.
The V10 comes with a new ‘point and shoot’ bin. Instead of lifting the bin to empty, like on the V8, you simply press the release lever to empty the bin. I’ve tried it and it’s easier to use than the V8.
I’m feeling this red paint job, which is exclusive to the V10 Fluffy variant. The V10 Absolute and V10 Absolute+ sport the same familiar orange hues.
The Dyson Cyclone V10 will be available in Singapore from 14th April. It will come in three variants. The Dyson V10 Fluffy comes with four cleaning tools, in addition to the soft roller cleaner head, and will retail at S$899. The V10 Absolute adds a direct drive cleaner head and will retail at S$999. The V10 Absolute+ has a larger bin and adds three more cleaning tools plus a tool bag. That will retail at S$1,199.
