Ever wondered how Philips’ Hue lights work wirelessly? Or how specific lights would look like in your home? You can now find out for yourself at the new Philips Light Lab in Toa Payoh. The Lab is at Philips APAC Center Level 1, 622 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, 319763, and here’s a peek at what you can see inside.

The new Philips Hue Lightstrip Plus has a couple of advantages over the original Lightstrip. It can now be extended up to 10 meters, and is also brighter with a 1,600 lumens output compared to the first Lightstrip’s 120 lumens. The Hue Lightstrip Plus can display 16 million colors, all controllable from the Philips Hue app. Also pictured is the portable Hue Go light (more about that on the next page).

The Philips Hue Go is a portable LED light that you can easily carry around. It can output up to 16 million different colors, and you can control it wirelessly using the Philips Hue app. A button on the bottom lets you switch from seven different light effects and the rechargeable internal battery can last up to three hours on a single charge.

They may look like incandescent light bulbs, but these are all LEDs. The ones in front are the first generation Philips LEDClassic, they produce warm-white light and aren’t dimmable. The second generation LEDClassics, in the back row, are dimmable, and they produce a warm, amber glow. The Philips LEDClassic Dimmable are on display in the Light Lab, but aren’t available for purchase yet.

Besides the smart Hue lights, you can also get a glimpse of funkier lamps and pendents at the Light Lab. This one, called the Plisse by Luce Plan, can fold in on itself lengthwise, collapsing into a smaller lamp without crushing the lights underneath. When you need a bigger lamp, simply extend it again into its full shape.

The Hope Terra lamp by Luce Plan. Luce Plan creates domestic and decorative lights, and Modular Lighting Instruments (which you’ll see on the next page) creates technical and architectural lights. Both are part of the Philips Lighting group.

The Modular lights take lighting one step further, showcasing what LED lights can do that conventional lights can’t. Flat, almost sculptural light pieces like these can really only be achieved because of how thin LED lights are.

Besides the fancier statement lights, there are also plenty of conventional Philips lights on display at the Light Lab, for you to see and try.
