Astell & Kern A&ultima SP1000M DAP

The compact version of Astell & Kern’s 2017 flagship digital audio player is none other than the A&ultima SP1000M. Despite being half its weight (203g), SP1000M still packs the same two AK4497EQ DAC chips found in its bulkier brethren - one for each audio channel. Powering the device is an undisclosed octa-core CPU for faster boot-up, playback, and more responsive user experience. On it sits a 4.1-inch touchscreen display at 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution. Audio filetypes supported on the A&ultima SP1000M are PCM files up to 384kHz, DSD files up to 11.2MHz (quad-rate DSD), alongside MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AAC, ALAC, and others. You can even boost its internal storage of 128GB with a microSD card (up to 400GB). All in all, it’s a high-powered DAP that’s still good this year (and probably for a while more). Originally, it retails at S$3,599. Over at Stereo, you can pick it up for just S$2,799 (more than 20% off). It’s also on sale at E1 Personal Audio, but at a slightly higher final price.
