MWC 2010 - An Overview

Mobile World Congress (MWC) has always been one of the major highlights in a mobile enthusiast's calendar. In 2010, it is of no exception, where the news keeps on flowing in. But unlike most other years, MWC is giving greater attention beyond the devices and technology.

This is the year where Microsoft gave caution to the wind, and revamped its whole mobile OS from scratch. It is also the year for the Korean chaebol Samsung to take an aggressive step into the mobile apps ecosystem with its own app store and mobile OS, the Samsung bada. Not to mention, long term evolution (LTE) or what you might recognize as 4G networks will come to the frontlines this year. Evidence of this last bit as falling in place as Infocomm partners from various regions are moving into the scene, ready to adopt the next generation wireless network.

But that's not to say the highlight on the latest devices has been lost. Within the halls of Fira de Barcelona, manufacturers also took the chance to introduce its offerings for the year. Some devices, unfortunately, might not be making its way into the Asia Pacific region, but it does warrant some mention for the innovation it brings to the market. So without further ado, we present the highlights of this year's MWC over the next few pages.

The annual Mobile World Congress, held at Fira de Barcelona, is the place to be for anything and everything related to the mobile industry.

Besides a strong focus on its device showcase, MWC 2010 has also attracted its fair share of trade partners and investors looking towards new cellular standards and technology.
