The Buzz is On

With the launch of the MotoMusic service in Singapore (which is managed by the Motorola subsidiary Soundbuzz), consumers will now be able to enjoy the option to choose between the content offerings from both Motorola and the Nokia Music Store . Of course, with every product, comes a price. Though the MotoMusic service was launched with mobile music in mind, which by the way, would offset you by S$2.50 for every track downloaded straight to your device, a cheaper option is available when you download your favorite tracks to your PC at S$1.99 per track. Content is not restricted to just music, with video being tossed in at S$4.00 per clip for good measure to entice the consumers.

Aiming to expand on the online music service horizon, Motorola's recent acquisition of the Singapore-based Soundbuzz gave rise to their latest offer...

...the MotoMusic service, which is already available in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and India.

Notice that we mentioned device, and not specifically Motorola device. The MotoMusic service is applicable on 20 different mobile phone brands on over 500 handsets currently available on the market today. Payment methods varies from online transactions to an integrated billing system with your respective telcos. Unfortunately, there exists a few drawbacks to the current MotoMusic service. For one, exchanging tracks between your PC and your mobile device would be be impossible due to the different digital rights management employed on both platforms (Windows Media DRM for PC and Open Mobile Alliance for mobile), and the permanency of your music tracks on your mobile device is not guaranteed with the loss of the device.

Regardless, with five upcoming devices to accompany the still rough on the edges MotoMusic service, there might still be something to look out for from the Motorola camp, so our advice is to take this with a pinch of salt and keep a close watch as Motorola introduces a few more tricks up its sleeve on both the product and service front.
