External Vendors and PlayTest Talks

External Vendors

For the first time ever, PlayTest had external vendors present to showcase their wares and disseminate useful information. EpiCentre, an authorized Apple dealer was there to tout their shiny and polished MacBooks. Those who signed up at PlayTest were given promotional offers, like free RAM upgrades for their MacBooks. Participants were given a taste of the ease of use of Mac OS X applications like iPhoto, with activities like tagging a photo and uploading it onto HWM's Facebook page using the application.

Olympus had a booth with its range of digital cameras on display and participants were able to try them out, along with brochures and catalogs detailing their products. For those thinking of venturing into the DSLR arena, this was a good place to start.

EpiCentre had a booth extolling the virtues of switching from the PC to the Mac.

This Philippe Starck designed wireless speakers (WiFi and Bluetooth) is known as the Parrot. One can stream music through the network wirelessly or simply plug an iPod into its dock. Do watch out for the review in a future issue of HWM.

Olympus too had a booth to display its wide range of digital cameras.

PlayTest Talks

In another first for PlayTest, the informative talks were conducted by third-party vendors. First up, EpiCentre continued to demonstrate the software capabilities of Apple's iPhoto and iMovie in the morning. This was followed after lunch by a talk on digital photography by Olympus, where various tips and tricks on taking great pictures were imparted by professional photographer, Henry Lim.

Finally, to conclude the series of talks, we had Intel, together with digital animation firm, MediaFreaks, showcasing the benefits of Intel's latest Core i7 processor when it comes to media creation.

To kickstart the series of talks, EpiCentre demonstrated how Apple's iPhoto and iMovie applications can make photo and video editing seem so easy.

Olympus too had its spokesperson, a professional photographer to give photography tips and how Olympus DSLRs can meet the needs of consumers.

Why buy an Intel Core i7 and how much better is it over older generation of hardware? Intel's regional manager for SEA Marketing and Consumer Sales, Ajay Mathur had all the answers.

There was an interesting and informative Q&A session following the Intel presentation.
