Gamescom Asia 2024 highlights: Capcom Pro Tour and cosplayers light up gaming convention

This year's Gamescom Asia had more to show, but the lack of key gaming publishers' presence was felt.

Gamescom Asia 2024 was noticeably larger than 2023's edition, with publishers like PlayStation and Capcom returning for just the second in-person Gamescom Asia event since the pandemic.

2/28

Unsurprisingly, PlayStation did not have many games shown on the floor as the company hasn't got any new games in its pipeline for the rest of 2024. But its most recent first-party game, AstroBot, did make a big presence.

3/28

Ubisoft did not participate in this year's Gamescom Asia, but its popular dancing game, Just Dance 2025, was a smash hit at PlayStation's booth.

4/28

Of course, you could buy PlayStation games and products too. But the PlayStation 5 Pro was a no-show, which was a bummer.

5/28

There were also some beautiful keyboards by Varmilo on display, a brand from China that was founded only in 2013.

6/28

One of my favourite parts of Gamescom Asia has nothing to do with gaming - food! There are a lot of food stalls at this year's convention, and the weekend saw long queues for quick bites.

7/28

If you have played the smash hit Dungeons & Dragons RPG, Baldur's Gate 3, you have to know who Andrew Wincott. He voiced the character Raphael.

8/28

There are also non-videogames activities including card and tabletop games, which have grown immensely popular in Singapore over the past years.

9/28

Ah...what's a good gaming convention without cosplayers? Good ones. And funny ones.

10/28

I have to admit; I didn't know Neopets is still around until I passed by their booth!

11/28

Neopets swags and collectibles were freely given too.

12/28

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be released on 25 October and the game was available for multiplayer sessions at the show floor.

13/28

Games Workshop's Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 series drew some talented Wargamers too, and I even witnessed quite a few newcomers trying their hands at painting their miniature figurines.

14/28

Local publisher 4Divinity's booth saw long queues of gamers waiting to try out the upcoming Stalkers 2 and Japanese drifting racer, JDM.

15/28

Indie Wavemakers occupied one of the biggest floor space at Gamescom Asia, and showcased current and upcoming games from indie developers and publishers. Cat Quest III by Gentlebros was launched not that long ago, and was pretty popular with the crowd.

16/28

There's also a new Artist Area at this year's Gamescom Asia that allows artists the chance to showcase their works of art that are inspired by gaming and pop culture. Yes, these were available for purchase too.

17/28

And there were quite a lot of local creative talents exhibiting their arts too.

18/28

I couldn't tell if Baymax was just a cosplayer or if Disney was doing some smart marketing at Gamescom Asia.

19/28

Love retro gaming? These machines were available for purchase, allowing 'older' gamers to relive their favourite arcade moments in the comfort of their homes.

20/28

No gaming conventions is complete without an energy drink sponsor! Monster Energy were giving out their Peach and Lime flavours, which were actually pretty tasty.

21/28

The biggest highlight of this year's Gamescom Asia is without a doubt the Capcom Pro Tour 2024 Super Premier Singapore, the region's biggest fighting game tournament.

22/28

Speaking of Capcom. Like last year's Gamescom Asia, the Japanese publisher retained the largest floor space (including the Premier Singapore 2024 tournament area) with plenty of machines installed with demos of its upcoming heavyweight title Monster Hunter Wilds.

23/28

There's even a Capcom merchandise shop. Sadly, most of the items were sold out by Sunday afternoon.

24/28

Guess this mascot's identity?

25/28

The casters for Capcom Pro Tour 2024 Super Premier Singapore were Sherry Nhan aka Sherryjenix (left) and Jamil "Jammerz" McKenzie.

26/28

The tournament did not disappoint, with many nail-biting matches that left even non-Street Fighter fans in awe. Especially when they involved Singapore's very own Ho Kun Xian aka Xian.

27/28

This photo pretty much proved just how popular Capcom's premier Street Fighter tournament is in Singapore.

Gamescom asia is already confirmed for 2025 with the dates set too. See you next year!
