The Duel of the Eee PCs: S101 vs 1000H

Performance Matters?

Performance Matters?

In a situation where almost all the hardware on your netbooks are mostly similar, performance tends to become a slightly moot issue. This is likely to hold true for a while yet till the market matures with more hardware variety for manufacturers to choose from. If the VIA Nano finally starts showing up in netbooks or when Intel SSDs start becoming the norm, then we'll probably be able to see a much more interesting netbook market in terms of performance and differentiation.

The S101 here outperforms all the other netbook thanks to its strong performance in the HDD test department. Where previous flash based netbooks such as the Eee PC 900 and 901 didn't score too well here, the S101's SSD was a improvement over the older models. This in turn led to a better overall system score compared to the others. The 1000H however, comes across as average when pitted against the other notebooks found here, but then again, netbook performance has always been this way so far. And in case you forgot, in our previous review, the MSI Wind failed to complete the test properly, hence we could not get the system score for comparison here.
