For most of the anime fans and otakus in Singapore, the annual Anime Festival Asia is largely recognised as that fancy bow we slap on to complete the "official" yearly package of passion-fueled spending, cosplaying and what-have-you.
Or at least, that's what it's supposed to be.
Cutting to the chase, the convention hasn't really lived up to fans' expectations in recent years, much less surpass it. Sure, there are good calls here and there, but it has been a while since we've actually had anything that's knock-you-out-of-the-park good.
Fortunately, we found 2019 fared way better than last year's event, even if it did still only manage a decent grade overall. Relative "newcomers" such as Demon Slayer and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime shared the limelight with "veterans" like Sword Art Online: Alicization, making for a decent cocktail of old and new stuff. Of course, there's lots more we can talk about, so read on!
