The 10 TV shows and films you should absolutely binge in October

By Tim Augustin - 19 Sep 2019

Raising Dion, Peaky Blinders, In the Tall Grass, Dolemite is My Name and El Camino

With prestige TV shows rising in popularity (and they don't seem to be stopping!), there's always something to watch, isn't there? It can be hard sometimes to sort through all the streaming services and TV channels to see what they have to offer every month - because sometimes, there's just too much!

October’s no exception either. It’s jammed full of promising TV shows and movies, new and old. Here’s my personal pick for the top 10 movies and TV shows you absolutely need to check out next month, in order of release date:

Raising Dion (October 4) - Netflix

Raising Dion is a superhero show with a twist. Nicole Reese struggles with raising her son Dion after her husband passes away - and those struggles only get worse when he manifests several superpowers. She’ll have to keep his abilities secret, and protect him from antagonistic forces that want to exploit him. Alisha Wainwright, Michael B. Jordan and Jason Ritter star.

Peaky Blinders Series 5 (October 4) - Netflix

Alright, so this isn't technically a new release - Series 5 of Peaky Blinders completed its run in the UK a while ago, but let's be honest. This show found its footing worldwide when it hit Netflix, to the point many mistake it for being a Netflix original. Tommy Shelby has transformed from a small-time criminal to a corrupt government official, but that doesn't mean he has time to rest. More threats are rising against him from all sides - or is that just his growing paranoia?

In the Tall Grass (October 4) - Netflix

Nowadays, every year is a good year for Stephen King fans. In 2019 alone, we've seen adaptations of IT, Pet Sematary and soon we'll see Doctor Sleep. For now though, horror fans can sink their teeth into this film adaptation of Stephen King's In the Tall Grass. Two siblings wander into a field of grass after hearing a boy cry for help - but can't seem to find a way out. Delightful!

Dolemite is My Name (October 4) - Netflix

This will be a treat to fans who miss Eddie Murphy's glory days in comedy. Dolemite is My Name is a biographical comedy on Rudy Ray Moore, played by Eddie Murphy. Rudy's a filmmaker, but more famously known for portraying Dolemite, a controversial character he made up. This movie has a pretty stacked cast: Keegan-Michael Key, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, Titus Burgess, Wesley Snipes and even Snoop Dogg!

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (October 11) - Netflix

One of the best TV series of all time is coming back - in movie form. Breaking Bad ended absolutely perfectly - with Walter White getting what he deserved and Jesse Pinkman finally escaping from his captors after months of being held prisoner. The one loose end the show left behind was whether Jesse successfully escaped or ran right into the arms of the police - either way, we're about to find out how Jesse's story ends.
