YouTube Shorts, the short video product and platform of YouTube, will soon be equipped with built-in Google Veo 3 capabilities.
The announcement was made by YouTube’s CEO, Neal Mohan, at the 2025 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
Specifically, the Veo 3 implementation in YouTube Shorts will allow users to make AI-generated backgrounds and video clips.
The service is another step up from the existing Dream Screen feature in YouTube Shorts, which uses the older Google Veo 2 AI video generation model.
YouTube’s CEO also added that Auto Dubbing, the auto-translation and dubbing service powered by its AI tools, will add another 11 languages to the current roster of nine, bringing the total number of Auto Dubbing languages to 20.
Veo 3 implementation in YouTube Shorts will be coming “later this summer” and the extra languages for Auto Dubbing will be “coming soon”.
Neal Mohan also said that YouTube Shorts currently draws 200 billion daily views, on average.
“My bet for the next 20 years? Creators will flip formats, blend genres, and push deeper into the mainstream — as brand ambassadors, big business ventures and visionary storytellers. Communities will continue to surprise us with the power of their collective fandom. And cutting-edge AI technology will push the limits of human creativity,” said Neal.
Google Veo 3 was recently announced at Google I/O 2025. Its video AI generation capabilities caught the attention of non-tech enthusiasts, who quickly generated many morbid and satirical videos for their social media platforms. Below is an example of Veo 3's capabilities, as generated by Google itself.
