Netflix has finally unveiled our first look at Martin Scorsese’s next film, The Irishman. The movie stars Robert De Niro as the titular character, Frank Sheeran, while Al Pacino plays Jimmy Hoffa and Joe Pesci as Russell Bufalino.
The Irishman centres around Sheeran, a mob hitman who developed his skills during World War II in Italy. As an old man, he reflects back upon a decades-old story that defined his career, particularly his role in the infamous disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.

The film is based on the book "I Heard You Paint Houses" and is particularly notable for bringing Joe Pesci out of retirement. It will also be using some advanced de-aging technology on actors like De Niro and Pesci, as the story it tells spans decades.
Marvel Studios has recently gotten a lot of use out of that technology, most prominently in Captain Marvel where they remarkably de-aged Samuel L Jackson and Clark Gregg.
This massive mob epic had a budget of around S$275 million (US$200 million), making it Scorcese's most expensive film and a huge get for Netflix.
The streaming service is definitely looking to up the ante on its original programming, so hopefully we see more big, blockbuster efforts like these (especially given their highly publicized US subscriber drop last month).
There’s no word on a specific release date for The Irishman, but we do know it will arrive sometime this fall.
