Earlier in July, Apple announced that it would be releasing a slew of Immersive Video content this year for the Apple Vision Pro.

One that caught my eye was "Submerged", because unlike other Immersive Video content, it was scripted. In fact, it's the first scripted Immersive Video for the Apple Vision Pro.

For those unfamiliar with Immersive Videos, they are videos recorded in a special format designed for the Vision Pro consisting of 180-degree footage recorded in 8K. When you watch these videos with the Vision Pro, it looks like you were there – right in the thick of the action.

Submerged is directed by Edward Berger, the director of All Quiet on the Western Front.

This is how Apple describes Submerged:

Submerged invites viewers onto a WWII-era submarine and follows its crew as they wrestle to combat a harrowing torpedo attack. This adrenaline-pumping thrill ride showcases the unique storytelling experiences made possible by Apple Immersive Video, a remarkable media format that leverages ultra-high resolution 3D video and Spatial Audio to put viewers in the centre of the action.

I’ve said in my review of the Apple Vision Pro that Immersive Videos is “jaw-dropping and downright amazing” and if Apple could bring more Immersive Video content, then users could have a good reason to invest in a Vision Pro.

It would appear that someone at Apple is listening. If Submerged is well received, who knows, we might see a full-length feature in the future – or at the very least, more scripted Immersive Videos.

Earlier in July, Apple announced that it would be releasing a slew of Immersive Video content this year.

Submerged will be free to watch for all Vision Pro owners in the Apple TV app on 10 October.
