Set pictures of The Batman show off the full costume and it looks...interesting

What do you think of the suit?

Cameras are rolling on The Batman, which will see Robert Pattinson step into the Caped Crusader’s boots for the first time. Thanks to a couple of set photos, we’ve gotten our first look at Pattinson’s full batsuit - ears and all.

The movie is currently filming in Glasgow, Scotland and while we don’t actually see Pattinson in the Batsuit, we do see his stunt double riding a Bat-bike in the Glasgow catacombs. The full costume is quite shocking to those expecting a sleek, armoured up Batsuit from director Matt Reeves’ red-lit teaser.

The costume comes with a couple of unique additions to the usual Batsuit gadgetry - such as Black Widow-like gauntlets comprised of several bolts or arrows. It’s possible that the wrist guards are this Batman’s version of the character’s signature grappling hook. The suit looks less like it’s made up of metal plates, and more like its made of militaristic and tactical armour.

Of course, these pictures aren’t at all indicative of how the suit will look like in the actual movie. Stunt doubles rarely wear an exact replica of the main actor’s costume while filming. The suit is also missing a cape - which usually gets CGI’d on in post-production.

However, if this does resemble the final look of the suit, it’s entirely possible that The Batman is adapting a story like Batman: Zero Year. The comic told the story of Batman’s very first year of active superhero-ing in Gotham City, wearing a shoddy suit and meeting many iconic villains for the very first time.

And wouldn’t you know it - The Batman will feature a whole lot of Gotham’s rogues gallery, many of which were featured in Zero Year. An earlier rumour claimed that the movie would be based on The Long Halloween graphic novel instead - which might explain why several pumpkins were found on set. Based on this, The Batman is likely adapting multiple comic storylines to portray the Dark Knight's early years in Gotham City.
