Purported price of Netflix's upcoming ad-supported plan revealed
Netflix is said to be considering about four minutes of ads per hour for the new plan.
The subscription fee for Netflix's upcoming ad-supported plan could be between US$7 (~S$9.75) to US$9 (~S$12.55). Netflix's plans are currently priced from S$12.98 to S$21.98 a month.
According to Bloomberg, Netflix plans to show ads before and during shows, and aim about four minutes of ads per hour. In comparison, cable companies have about 10 to 20 minutes of ads per hour.
Viewers cannot skip these ads or access the playback controls when the ads are playing. Netflix also plans to limit the ad targeting to ensure they are not repetitive.
The ad-supported plan may not come with the full catalogue of licensed content and viewers are unlikely to be able to download shows for offline viewing. Netflix confirmed it will roll out the ad-supported plan after losing 200,000 subscribers in the last quarter, which is a first for the company in over a decade.
