How did Ryo Saeba, a top-class “sweeper” in City Hunter, end up working together with Kaori Makimura, the sister of his long-time partner? While the legendary – and classic – manga did not delve too much into it, Netflix’s newly released teaser trailer hints that the highly anticipated Japanese live-action adaptation will explore the story behind this partnership.

Greenlit for production back in 2022, Netflix’s live-action adaptation is set to premiere on 25 April. If you’re too young to have read the manga, City Hunter follows the goofy Ryo Saeba, a gun-for-hire or “sweeper” who navigates the shadowy depths of modern-day Shinjuku, Tokyo. Played by actor Ryohei Suzuki, he is accompanied by Misato Morita playing as the heroine Kaori Makimura.

Based on the teaser trailer, the film seems to follow the early events of the manga, hinting at the story behind Ryo’s partnership with Kaori. Watch it below.
