Joker / Warner Bros. Pictures
The nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards have been revealed, with Joker sweeping the nominations with a massive 11 nods. The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood followed close behind with several nominations as well.
Netflix also got recognised in a pretty massive way, leading every other movie studio with a groundbreaking 24 nominations for movies like Marriage Story, The Two Popes and The Irishman. It seems like the streaming service is putting their all into making more critically appreciated movies these days, especially in 2020.
Blockbusters like Avengers: Endgame got very few nominations, on the other hand. Avengers picked up just one nomination, while Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker got three nominations. Here is the full list of Oscar nominations:

Who got snubbed?

The 92nd Academy Awards will air on Sunday, February 9. You’ll have to check back then to see who wins - but at first glance, there are plenty of snubs here. Movies like The Farewell, Us, The Peanut Butter Falcon, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, The Lighthouse, Dolemite is My Name, Rocketman, The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Uncut Gems were all snubbed one way or another. I would go so far as to say that a couple of them even deserved a Best Picture nod over a bunch of other movies on that list.
Still, it just goes to show that 2019 was an incredible year for movies, with multiple potential Oscar contenders coming out in such a short amount of time. If you want to check out our Top 10 list of 2019 movies, click here. Unless you're more into TV shows?
